What is Ledger Live and why it matters

Ledger Live is the official application by Ledger® that provides a secure interface for managing cryptocurrency assets stored on Ledger® hardware wallets. Ledger Live acts as the bridge between the blockchain and your hardware device: it displays balances, prepares transactions, and requires you to validate every transaction on the device itself so your private keys never leave the hardware.

Ledger Live Download & Installation

Choose the correct version for your platform: Ledger Live Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) or the mobile Ledger Live App (iOS/Android). Always download from the official Ledger® site or your platform’s official app store. After installing, run the app, follow the onboarding flow, and connect your Ledger® device by USB or Bluetooth (if supported).

Logging in & connecting your device

Ledger Live does not manage passwords for your private keys — authentication happens on your Ledger® device. To “log in,” unlock the device with your PIN and open the relevant currency app on the device; Ledger Live will detect accounts and prompt you to allow access. For Bluetooth pairing, confirm the pairing code on your device and phone.

Troubleshooting common issues

  • Ledger login not working: check device PIN, update Ledger Live and firmware, try another cable or USB port.
  • Error connecting Ledger account: disable USB hubs, temporarily turn off VPNs or security software that might block connections.
  • Ledger Live App not working: clear app cache on mobile or reinstall desktop client; export logs to share with Ledger Help Center.
  • Can't verify Ledger wallet: always verify addresses on-device — the on-screen address is the authoritative one.
  • Unable to Ledger Trezor: Ledger® and Trezor are distinct ecosystems; use each manufacturer's official software to manage those devices.

Account recovery & 2FA notes

Your recovery phrase (seed) is the single source of truth for account recovery. If your device is lost, restore with your recovery phrase on a new Ledger® device or compatible wallet. Ledger® will never ask for your recovery phrase. There is no device-level "2FA reset" for your seed; two-factor authentication commonly applies to online services and must be reset through those services' procedures.

When to contact Ledger Help Center

If firmware update fails, transactions appear without your approval, or the device behaves erratically, collect device and app logs and reach out to the Ledger Help Center. Never share your recovery phrase with support.
